About the Data Splitter
What the Data Splitter does
Paste a list where every record is a line and every field is separated by a pipe, a semicolon, a comma or a tab. The splitter removes those separators, keeps every value in the order you pasted it, and gives the block back with a tab between the values — so one copy and one paste drops each record into its own row and each value into its own column of Excel or Google Sheets.
How to use the Data Splitter
- 1.Paste your lines, one record per line. Pipes, semicolons, commas, tabs and double spaces are detected on each line.
- 2.Press Split data and check the preview; change Split on if a line uses an unusual separator.
- 3.Press Copy and paste into your sheet — every value lands in its own column, in paste order.
Frequently asked questions(5)
- Why is a tab used between the values instead of a space?
- Excel and Google Sheets only start a new column at a tab or a line break — a plain space stays inside the same cell. The tab is invisible once pasted, so the block looks like space-separated text in the sheet while every value keeps its own column. If you genuinely need spaces, switch Join with to Space and the output will use single spaces instead.
- Which separators does it split on?
- Pipes (|), semicolons (;), commas (,) and tabs, detected separately on every line — so a list that mixes them still comes out aligned. Runs of two or more spaces are used as a fallback when a line contains none of the others. One separator can also be forced from the Split on control.
- Is my data uploaded to your server?
- No. The split runs in your browser in plain JavaScript: the list is never sent to this server and nothing is stored. That is also why the tool keeps working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.
- What happens to a row with fewer values than the others?
- It is padded with empty values so every row has the same number of columns. Without that, one missing value would pull everything after it one column to the left. Values are never moved between rows, and a blank field stays blank.
- How much data can I split at once?
- Tens of thousands of lines in a single paste. The preview table draws the first hundred rows to stay fast, while Copy and Excel always take the whole list — nothing is trimmed from the output.
